Kindness
Learning Target: I can choose my words wisely and show kindness all around
Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes
Before reading our story each student cut out a paper heart. This heart represents their own heart. While listening to the story, students are instructed to crinkle their heart when they hear unkind words or words that hurt. We found there are many times throughout our story when students can be unkind, just like our school day.
Unkind words can leave a mark and even when we try really hard to iron all the wrinkles out of our hearts, there are still marks that our heart remembers. |
Why it's important: No matter how hard you try, you cannot erase the wrinkles on a heart put there by words.
